Some Unknown Facts about the Panchayat Series

The show was filmed in a real village named Mahodiya in the Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh. The Panchayat office and Abhishek's quarters shown in the series are actual village buildings, not constructed sets. Actor Jitendra Kumar, who plays the lead role of Abhishek Tripathi, was initially reluctant to take on the part because he feared being typecast in small-town roles.

Director Deepak Kumar Mishra aimed for realism by avoiding artificial lighting and encouraging the team to live in the village during the shoot. Interestingly, Neena Gupta was not the first choice for the role of Manju Devi, the village sarpanch. After she expressed interest, her character was developed further to make her role more substantial.

The building used as the Panchayat office is an actual government office, and real Panchayat activities had to be shifted during the shoot. The cast was instructed not to wear visible makeup to maintain authenticity. The background music was kept minimal, and many ambient sounds were recorded live from the village itself to add to the show’s raw feel.

The writer, Chandan Kumar, is an IIT Bombay graduate, just like the character Abhishek. His own experiences influenced the story. TVF had always envisioned Panchayat as a long-term series with multiple seasons. Additionally, many extras in the background scenes are not actors but real villagers who were trained briefly and compensated for their participation.
